Caught in the act!!!!

We are experiencing quite the problem with these little deers. They have now eaten all of my hostas, rose buds and lilly buds!!!! Strange as there is so much forage available in the bush right now. Guess my stuff is much yummier!!!!!! If they discover my veggie garden, I'll have to start sleeping out there!!!

Pets and Wildlife...

We have decided to allow pets under certain conditions. 1) We want a security deposit. Something reasonable like your car or house. 2) The animal is never to be left alone in the cabin. 3) You must be responsible for poop scooping where necessary from all public areas. I don't expect you to forge through the bush looking for your dogs scat!!!!! 4) The critter will not bark or howl constantly. 5) You will be extra cautious with oil lamps at night - easily knocked over by a tail swish. 6) No damage of any kind to the cabin or the property.

This was an exciting wildlife week here. First we had a sow ( female bear ) and her two cubs wandering around at the side of the house. By standing in the jaccuzzi, the two grandbabies and I were only a few feet away from them. Next we had two young bucks ( male deer ) eating some fallen leaves and my hostas!!!!! Their budding antlers were fuzzy nubs. With the bears I couldn't find the camera and with the deer, Ray couldn't get the camera to work so sorry there aren't great pics to go along with this post!!!!!

Private? Yes, clothing optional!!!!

I am often asked just how private it is at the Rustic Cabin and honestly the best answer is, "It is so private that clothing is optional!!!" It is going to be a long hot summer so to get back to nature and to be au natural yourself book those dates you have been thinking about!!!! Avoid disappointment by booking as early as you can.

This week at the Rustic Cabin

On Monday we had two fellows come and "straighten" the cabin. We had noticed that the cabin appeared to be leaning towards the river on its pilons so we had those replaced with cottage blocks and now the porch doesn't go uphill from the building!!!! I could really notice the screen door closing well this week when I stayed here.

I sprayed the patio furniture at the swimming hole and now it looks newish!!! Someone had burnt the arms of the chairs with cigarretes last year. OMG and I think we have such awesome people staying in our cabin!!!! If you look above, you may notice the small black box looking thing to the right of the table to the right of the chair. That is the ashtray for the swimming hole and we ask that you use it!!!!!!!!!!

We have a new wood pile which I think you will agree looks much better than the last one!!! The truck hub works really well for camp fires and there is always lots of kindling around to get them started. We don't need to get a fire permit for you as long as you are using the fire to eat by. I guess marshmallows could be a new food group!!!!!!!

Introducing - The Barber's Cottage

If you consider The Rustic Cabin to be just a bit too rustic for you, you might want to consider The Barber's Cottage on Lake Bernard in Sundridge, Ontario. The front section used to be the barber's shop in Sundridge and sometime in the 50s it was hauled out of town and placed on this little lot. There are vacant lots both sides of the cottage. It is actually on a laneway not a road and there is a train track behind it which is used about 3 times a day.

This spring it will be totally renovated and hopefully be available for rent by mid June, 2012. New windows, flooring, kitchen, panelling, bathroom etc. etc. You can follow the progress of the renos at http://www.thebarberscottage.blogspot.com .

Lake Bernard is the largest fresh water lake in the world without an island. The beach area is sandy and shallow for a long distance out from the shore. The maximum depth is 48 meters. Fishing is good for rainbow trout, white fish, brook trout and lake trout. It is a fairly large lake, with a perimeter of about 23 km.
The cottage will rent for $125 a night and $800 a week. To make a reservation contact me at sheekey@bell.net .
