A Season Change....

Here's another pic of the cabin inside. The living room area.

The dining room area with the open guest book. Love it when you write in the guest book. We have many shy guests who want to keep their presence a secret. Hey, if there is jam on the table, it is for you as a welcome to the cabin gift and just in case you forgot to bring food!!!!

The river is as high today as it is normally in the spring. Raging. Not quiet at all. Very unusual for this time of year. Maybe the river is protesting the coming of winter. We have already had snow. This week the laneway to the cabin is still open but not sure how long that will last.

This is the view from the porch of the house. All the leaves are down not except for the tamaracks. Their golden needles are still on the trees.

This has been an amazing year for the cabin. We have never been so busy with guests. Great guests I must say. Many folks have spoken of wanting to come in the winter so now we will wait and see who the truly brave are. Winter is wonderful but you need to be hardy here in the north. You will have to walk your gear in. Start the woodstove. It will take a couple of hours to get the cabin warm. The cabin is well insulated except for the floor so bring snuggy footwear. What an adventure awaits. Oh, don't forget, you will need WINTER tires and a 4x4 vehicle would also be an asset. All weather tires will not cut it on our driveway!!!! Looking forward to your visit........

Fall Beautiful Fall....

I so need to update the pics of the inside of the cabin. Things change and I get used to the change and then realize I haven't documented it!!! Yes, that is a real bear skin hanging there. It came from Manitoba. The kitchen area is to the left. The living room to the right and the dining table to the left behind the picture taker. We are going to have some nice sunny days coming this week so I intend to take more pics.......... We will see how well that goes.

It is so hard to catch the glory of the colours. It has been fabulous this week. There have been a number of tour buses driving around the neighbourhood. Seems strange to us that people pay money and need guides to come and look at our leaves!!!!

The picture below is right here close to the house. It was glowing with colour this week.

The Latest addition to the cabin......

We recently received this wonderful stained glass piece and decided the best place for it was in the cabin!!! Sure hope you like it too.

This has been an amazingly busy year at The Rustic Cabin. It has been great fun to see returning guests and to meet many for the first time. We have the most wonderful people come and stay at our cabin. It continues to be a place of refuge for those looking for something different, quiet, relaxing and magical. Come sleep, paint, draw, write, walk, swim, float in the river, listen, enjoy. Create and be a part of creation.

It's been a hot skinny dipping day!!!!

What a great way to spend the afternoon. Icy cold beverage. Good book. Floaty chair. This really is heaven!!!!!

An improved laneway to the cabin....

How exciting!!! The laneway has been widened and resurfaced for about half of the way to the cabin. I went to town so I wouldn't interfere with all of the tree cutting that needed to be done to do the job right. We need to take out another 30 or more trees to finish it all of the way down to the cabin. That may happen later this summer. The two curves will be much easier to manage now in the spring and fall when it get wet and sticky. Sorry, you will still have to walk-in in the winter!!!!

It is time to book your 2013 visit!!!

I'm writing to you from Grand Bahama Island. We are here for the winter and so sorry you aren't here!!! Emails and reservations have been coming regularly since we arrived at the end of December. Now is a really good time to book your summer getaway. You can visit the Rustic Cabin in the winter if you have great winter tires. All weather tires just don't cut it where our driveway is concerned. The driveway is ploughed but you need to walk your geer in.

The main points to remember, if you don't want to read the whole blog, can't imagine why, is that the Rustic Cabin has no hydro or running water. It is a different experience for those who are brave and looking for something out of the ordinary. It is very comfortable. I love to stay there. Oil lamps provide lighting and we provide containers of water if we are home. In the winter you have to carry your own water in.

The Rustic Cabin offers you a very tranquil experience. Surrounded by trees. Very private, so much so that if you want to be o'natural you may do that. Gay friendly. Swimming hole. Fishing. Bridge going over the Magnetewan River to 50 acres with some trails and 200 acres of Crown Land behind us. It is delightful, magical and oh so relaxing. Come and experience the peace, the sound of nature and the changing character of the river.
